Wow.

Your style is just so unmistakable, I can hear your other songs in it from when I started listening to you a couple years ago.

You did a good job filling the space for certain.

I've never played this generation of pokemon, but I took a look at the original song and this is a dead ringer for it.

Maybe the newgrounds look change primed me but it sounds glossy, and maybe a bit sloshy if you're not concentrating on following everything.

The light pad in the back is very nice, maybe it could have done a slight variation the second time, but it sounded great and really brought everything together.

And that's my thoughts. =D

Is there a character restriction on the author's comments?

Birdinator99 responds:

No -- for the title of the song, heh.

I agree about the "busy" nature of the song -- there's a lot of notes being played. Changing up the instruments definitely affected its original charm.

Thanks for stopping by!

Airy

You've done a very good job here.

Listening gives the feeling of having space in my head, might be a good thinking song.

Revisiting the original you've definitely improved on it a great deal. The old one felt heavier, this one is spread out nicely so it can float well.

Drums are better for sure =D

Birdinator99 responds:

I'm not sure if it's still too airy, but it's due Monday, so whatever. I agree; the spacial quality is much improved from before.

Thanks for reviewing!

Good work!

I like the theme you've got going here, especially when the main synth is playing.

But I can't help thinking that it'd sound better with a base that sounded a bit more plucky. The base fits fine when the lead is in there but when the lead drops out for a bit (1:15 or so) the base without much just sounds like it's the limiting instrument.

Instead of being that cool backbone to the song, when it's alone it just carries on with no added emotion.

Them's my thoughts^^

I enjoyed the solo thoroughly.

Birdinator99 responds:

Plucky, eh? I don't know, I thought I could've turned the volume down a little, but maybe an EQ change would have brought out the attack more.

BASS HAS NO EMOTION THAT'S THE RULE

lol

Seriously, though, I'm glad you like the solo. Thanks for reviewing!

Good mix.

The intro strikes me as a bit odd, and the song certainly never seems to come back to it completely. But it doesn't seem to detract from the music. Maybe it would on a first listen, though afterwards you already know how the song goes and it doesn't matter anymore.

I like the pitch bend that leads into the, melody I guess it would be called. Lifts the notes and then lets them fall into place.

The melody itself did not seem to get old, especially with the piano that came in about half way through, and the solo. As well as other changes I can't currently remember.

All in all it works well.

Birdinator99 responds:

Yea, that intro is strange, isn't it?

The original song made great use of the piano, so I wanted to try that out a little, but all in all, I think I bloated the mid-high freq. range. Still, maybe it's not too bad.

Eerie

This rewrite doesn't seem to have any trouble expressing itself in the least.

The mechanical slowness of the drums feels like it's putting itself through the motions (in a good way). Your long fade out is beautifully done and truly seems to finish only when it's certain that it has held for long enough.

You nailed it with your story as well. They fit each other perfectly.

You're a shoe in for this round (assuming that's how they write the expression)!

Birdinator99 responds:

Well actually, Rig had some complications with trips and power outages, which, while unfortunate, means that he couldn't submit anything in time. Unless a special exception is made, I think I'll win by default (again, really not an ideal situation).

Glad you liked the changes I made -- good thing it fits with the story...

...yeah...story...

Thanks for reviewing!

Nostalgia

Yeah it was my first n64 game too.

Your drums are fantastic as always, always coming in at the right time.

My only qualm with it is that the organ-ish lead sounds a little too flat for it's role in such a happy song... just sounds off to me.

My perspective is not the only one though, so I could quite easily be the odd one out here.

Birdinator99 responds:

Actually, the organs used for the backgrounds were SoundFonts I was trying out; I thought you might not like those, because they sounded a little bland to me. The lead was supposed to be my good organ, but maybe I should've browsed around for different samples in that department. It might be your headphones, but I doubt it.

That's cool that you liked the drums! Thanks for stopping by!

Also, sorry, I accidentally voted your review down -- I was trying to vote it up, but the buttons are so hard to click on an iPod.

Jealous soul

I can feel it in your song.

As influenced by the title "lucky you."

I personally love odd beats, they make a song so much more interesting, and I hate when what I listen to sounds the same as everything else I listen to.

mjattie responds:

I guess you're right, I can be jealous, quite often,

and I'm glad you like the odd beat!

thanks! (and sorry for the late reply, I've been on holidays in florence)

Sounds great, the title fits well

Whatever new stuff you tried, it sounds good.

Your work is really starting to sound polished.

Birdinator99 responds:

That's weird, because I didn't put polish on this; I just wiped it with a damp rag.

Still gets the job done :p

What I was looking for.

I was smiling at the odd beat up until 1:00 when that weird synth or whatever came in and clashed too much for my ears =P. But after it went away it was all good. I love the drum beats and base.
